Yoga Teacher Training Course
Margaret Willcocks, trading as Greenwood Yoga Centre (GYC) as a Registered Training Organisation (Provider Number 51556) is formally recognised by the National Accreditation Council under section 27 of the Vocational Education & Training Act 1996 and is now presenting:
Certificate III in Fitness SRF30206
This is a Nationally Accredited contextualised course which is presented in 7 modules and which has an extensive yogic content as the underpinning knowledge.
3rd Course commences August 2007
GYC presents this course over a period of 24 months (2 years). The course covers 24 Units of Competency within 7 modules.
Modules:
- Asana: Topics include History of Asana (postures), Cautions & Benefits, Adjustments, Different Styles of Asana, Alternative Practices, Use of Equipment and Demonstration Techniques.
- Anatomy & Physiology: Topics include all the Systems of the Body, Mechanics of Movement, Application of Physiology to Human Movement and Asana and Ill Health and Injury.
- History & Philosophy: Topics include Historic Timeline, Vedas and the Upanishads, Patanjali’s 8 Limbs, Bhagavad Gita, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, Vedanta, Tantra, Karma, Jnana, Bhakti, Raja, Kundalini, Mantra, Japa & Yantra Yoga and How Yoga came to the West.
- Yogic Physiology: Topics include Western & Eastern Views, the Gunas and Applying the Gunas, Doshas, Prana and the Nadis, Chakras and Koshas.
- Pranayama: Topics include Anatomy of Breathing, Personal Assessment, Mudras and Bandhas.
- Relaxation & Meditation: Topics include Perspectives on Relaxation, Perspectives on Meditation, Teaching Meditation, Meditation Methods Appropriate to Yoga, The Energetics of Meditation.
- Teaching Methodology: Topics include Adult Learning Styles, Principles of Human Communication, Class Planning, Evaluating Class Plans, Training Small Groups, Occupational Health & Safety and Risk Management.
Contact Hours: This course covers over 350 hours of contact hours through facilitated learning sessions provided by professional, well experienced and qualified yoga teachers.
Study and Practice Hours: It is expected and required that each participant attend their own yoga class with their own yoga teacher throughout the duration of the course. Hours for personal yoga practice and study time ~ it is recommended that at least 30 to 60 minutes per day be set aside for practice and as many hours as needed for study.
Venue: Greenwood Yoga Centre, Unit 2A / 32 Prindiville Drive WANGARA (opposite Wanneroo Markets).
Facilitated Training Sessions: All facilitated training sessions are conducted on Saturday afternoons from 1.00pm to 5.00pm.
Facilitators: Margaret Willcocks, Sandra Walker, Lynda Cooper, Jessica Moody and Chandrika Gibson.
Course Notes: All course notes are supplied and copyrighted to GYC. The Training Manual consists of over 800 pages. Copyrighted Handouts and Recommended Reading List also provided.
Resource Material: GYC has an extensive library for participants to borrow from for further study.
Assessments: Participants are assessed to ensure competency of their knowledge, understanding and application of all units of competency. Assessments are in the form of practical sessions, questionnaires, assignments and written exams.
Assessors: A panel of assessors who are qualified assessors and experienced Yoga teachers assess all participants. The assessors are Margaret Willcocks (Principal assessor), Sandra Walker and Chandrika Gibson. Jessica Moody (Exercise Physiologist) and Lynda Cooper (Iyengar trained and qualified) work with Margaret for the Anatomy & Physiology and Asana assessments.
Pre-requisites: It is preferable for participants to have had at least 2 years regular practice with a qualified yoga teacher as the purpose of this course is to teach people how to teach Yoga and not how to do Yoga. Click here for more info.
Prospectus: Prospective applicants may request a prospectus which can be collected from GYC by appointment.
Application for Enrolment: Applications for Enrolment are presented to prospective applicants at an Information Session or from GYC by appointment. Enrolments are accepted after an interview with the CEO of Greenwood Yoga Centre.
Induction: All participants are required to attend an induction session before the course commences.
Cost: $4,750. Average cost of $13.50 per training hour.
Qualifiactions: On the successful completion of this course, graduates are presented with a Certificate III in Fitness SRF30206 and are eligible to join the Yoga Teacher’s Association of Australia as a Level 1 Teacher member.
