March: Pranayama
This session will be presented by Lynda Cooper (who first gained her teaching qualification from the Iyengar method in 1992 in England) and assisted by Margaret Willcocks. Both Lynda and Margaret are qualified and experienced yoga teachers with Level 3 membership of the Yoga Teachers' Association of Australia Inc. Lynda has studied with Donna Farhi and advocates the importance of correct understanding and practice of Pranayama.
This session is primarily designed for teachers and will present the following learning outcomes:
- Explain the meaning of Pranayama.

- Identify the four aspects of breath.
- Explain what is known as abdominal, diaphragmatic and thoracic breathing.
- Instruct and demonstrate the practice of observation and control of breath.
- Instruct and demonstrate the importance of the 3 main Bandhas.
The morning session will be focused on the presentation of theory and questions from the participants. The morning session will also encourage participants to view and listen to each other breathing to learn how to observe students in their class and how they can best assist them. This is an important aspect of teaching particularly with respect to Pranayama as it is not always obvious to teachers how they should observe their students breathing when instructing a large class.
The afternoon session will provide the participants with the information and practical skills for setting up equipment to assist students to be comfortable in a supine and sitting position for specific Pranayama techniques.
