GYC also has a Library and Lounge area for students' enjoyment and comfort. Students are welcome to borrow resources from the extensive library to enhance their knowledge and understanding of Yoga.
With her passion for practising and teaching yoga, Margaret established Greenwood Yoga Centre in Wangara in 1999 with the support of her husband Keith and many students. The first class was on 8 October and the Centre has flourished since then to have a strong base of both students and teachers. Margaret's yoga teaching experience spans over two decades. As a graduate of the International Yoga Teacher’s Association Teacher Training Course, Margaret served as Teacher Training Course Liaison and Assessor in WA with that Association. Margaret is a Level 3 member of the Yoga Teachers' Association of Australia (YTAA) and has been involved on the national committee of YTAA as WA's State Representative. Margaret has her Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training and is a Registered Training Organisation (operating as Greenwood Yoga Centre).
Margaret believes that people need to be offered different styles of yoga so they can find a style that accords with their body and enhances their personality. This is reflected in the variety of classes offered at GYC. She is also keen to emphasise that Yoga is for EVERYONE and definitely for both MEN and WOMEN.
GYC has grown and developed and now engages the assistance of a group of dedicated, experienced and qualified teachers who support and assist Margaret in ensuring that students understand that yoga is for everyone no matter their age, ability, beliefs, culture, religion or gender. All of GYC's teachers also strongly support and promote the ethos that Yoga is a science and therapy and NOT a religion.
Margaret and the teachers at GYC promote the following benefits from a regular practice of yoga at the Centre. Students will improve their posture, increase their physical and mental strength, create greater flexibility in their body and mind, enhance their awareness and release tensions from their body and mind. Mental focus will be sharper, general health will improve, and enjoyment of life will be enhanced.
With great respect for their students and the integrity of Yoga, Keith, Margaret and GYC's Teachers warmly welcome everyone to the Greenwood Yoga Centre in Wangara.
Commonly asked Question:
Why ‘Greenwood Yoga Centre’ when it is located in Wangara?
Answer:
Margaret decided to name her Yoga centre in Wangara the Greenwood Yoga Centre because she had taught in the Greenwood area for over 15 years and people associated her with this name. The name Greenwood also has great meaning for her in the Yogic sense:
Many of the yoga postures are named after animals and insects in the forest. The colour green relates to trees and life force or prana and green wood is associated with flexibility. However, while green wood is associated with flexibility, it sometimes needs support and yoga equipment can provide this. Green is synonymous with relaxation and calmness, while wood reminds us of the fire created in our body through our physical practice of asanas or postures. So Greenwood gives us the duality of hot and cool, strong and soft, steadfast and flowing, energizing and relaxing, all of which can be experienced in your yoga practice at GYC.
